What is Lipspeaking?
A lipspeaker is trained to repeat without voice, a speakers message to a deaf person.
Using clear lip-shapes, the flow, rhythm and intonation used by the speaker is relayed clearly. The use of facial expression, natural gesture and fingerspelling (if requested) is also used.
A lipspeaker may be asked to use their voice, enabling the lipreader to benefit from any residual hearing they have.
As a qualified sign language interpreter I am also able to provide Sign Supported English (SSE) for people who would like a combination of both lipreading and sign.
